For the fourteenth year in a row, the Badminton Association of Serbia, the Badminton Association of Vojvodina and the Badminton Club Novi Sad organized one of the biggest and best international tournaments for young players, "Serbian U17 & Youth International Novi Sad 2026", an official competition of the Badminton Europe Confederation.
Novi Sad, which holds the prestigious title of European City of Sports in 2026, last week hosted almost 900 competitors, coaches, officials and guests from 20 European countries. Top organization, professional conditions and ambience in the Sports Center "Slana bara" on Klisa and highly competitive level of young badminton players from all over Europe marked this year's event of importance for the Republic of Serbia.
In the period from June 17 to 21, more than 700 matches were played in doubles and singles in different age categories – U17 competitors (BEC U17 Grand Prix tournament), U15, U13, U11 and U9 years old (international youth tournament). The most successful competitor at the ’’Serbian U17 International Novi Sad 2026’’, European U17 Grand Prix tournament, was Maxim Jacob from Romania, who won two gold medals in men's singles and men's doubles. At the extremely strong European competition for young competitors "Serbian Youth International Novi Sad 2026", the most successful was the Polish representative Aleksander Turski, who managed to win two gold and one silver medal in the U15 category. Serbian national team members Konstantin Ristić and Filip Stojadinović won the bronze medal in men's doubles under the age of 15, as did Sofija Tabakman, paired with Julia Reti from Hungary, in the U11 women's doubles.
’’This year's edition of one of the officially largest and best European tournaments exceeded the expectations of hundreds of guests from abroad as well as domestic competitors, coaches, umpires, officials and organizers. We tried to once again provide the best possible conditions for young athletes from Europe and provide another unforgettable week spent in Serbia. I think we have completely succeeded in that.’’ said Radomir Jovović, President of the Badminton Association of Serbia's Executive Board and BEC Director.
The final matches and award ceremonies were attended by: Tatjana Medved, member of the City Council for Sports of the City of Novi Sad, Nemanja Radović, vice president of the Paralympic Committee of Serbia, Igor Marinković, head of the department for international sports cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zorana Godošev, representative of Algotech, Predrag Vuković, member of the Board of Directors and Radomir Jovović, president of the Executive Board of the Badminton Association of Serbia.
